Miamipress Weekend Weather

MIAMI — More than halfway through the Atlantic hurricane season, we are now up to tropical storm No. 13. It’s called Melissa and it formed in the open Atlantic early Saturday. As of 5 a.m. EST Saturday, the ts.jpgin Miami said the storm was several hundred miles off the coast of Africa with top winds of about 40 mph. It could get slightly stronger during the next 24 hours but forecasters expect it to weaken after that without hitting land. Meantime, Tropical Storm Karen continued its slow march across the Atlantic. By Saturday morning, it was less than 600 miles from the Caribbean with 40-mph winds, which made it just barely a storm. The National Hurricane Center said it could weaken to a tropical depression by Sunday.

Maybe some weekend rain?

A wave near Eastern Cuba could bring us some more rain if it holds together. It should run into a weak front dropping south out of Georgia, and that crash could provide enough of a spark to start the rain.
