Miamipress Twilight Zone

September 29, 2007 — A fat wad of cash is not the type of item that one would normally leave behind when moving.

But a Sanford, Fla., man who found $100,000 hidden in the attic of his house is fighting with the widow of the former owner who apparently left it behind.

twilight.jpg Cops found similar cash bundles in the home when Scott Quinn, a bail bondsman and gun dealer, was killed there in 2003.

But the current owner, Bernard Salcedo, says there’s no way to know whom the cash stash belongs to.

***** A U.S.-flag-painted fire hydrant was removed from a Hillsboro, Ore., dog run because neighbors thought it inappropriate for canines to urinate on Old Glory.

The hydrant had been installed to honor a police dog killed in the line of duty. After it was removed, dog owners and war veterans lobbied to bring it back.

It’s now being reinstalled with a fence around it.

***** Finding God has set this spry inmate free.

Roger Nording, 54, escaped from a Spokane, Wash., prison after being let out of a building for fresh air during a break in a Bible-study class.

Nording – facing assault, gun and drug charges – climbed onto the roof, leaped over a barbed-wire fence and got into what appeared to be a prearranged getaway car.

***** This cad’s doom was sealed with a kiss.

A jilted Chinese woman out for the ultimate revenge killed her lover by passing a capsule containing rat poison from her mouth to his as they kissed.

He swallowed the pill and quickly expired.

“The couple had said that if either one of them cheated on the other, he or she would have to die,” an investigator said.

The woman is now facing murder charges.

***** Political parties in Bulgaria are really pushing the envelope.

So many candidates are running for office from 70 parties that paper ballots are 6½ feet long and can’t fit into standard legal-size manila envelopes.

Authorities are importing 11 million special jumbo envelopes.
